Challenges in membrane development for fruit juice clarification

For fining/clear filtration of apple juices, an ultrafiltration polyethersulfone tubular membrane has been used successfully for many years. This is not used in the filtration of dark fruit juices, as characteristic colorants are also retained in some cases. To tap this market, a PVDF-based tubular sleeve membrane is to be developed that does not decolorize dark juices but retains turbidity.
